Wearing White After Labor Day - The Hype

Wearing White After Labor Day - The Hype

You ever wonder why you should not wear white after labor day? This fashion rule has been passed down a couple of generations, but where did it originate?

This myth started in the Gilded Ages. Every summer they would migrate from the city to cooler locations by the ocean for the whole summer, and what kind of clothing did they pack? White outfits to keep cool. White reflects light and keeps you cooler than any other color. Linen material also kept you cool and most linen outfits were white or lighter in color.

When summer was over, the white clothing would get put away when there was a return to the city. The weather was starting to turn cooler and there was a need for warmer clothing. Additionally, most of the individuals in the Gilded Ages lived in NYC and upon return, wearing white riding around the streets was frowned upon because they did not want to get their clothing dirty. If the wearer would walk outside, their outfit was immediately covered in dirt and grime.

Fast forward to today, we have global warming, which keep the temperatures pretty warm in many parts of the country past labor day. In this day and age we are rule breakers and we can wear white alot longer than they could in the gilded ages!

With that being said, if you are a rule breaker, grab your Go With The Flow Pants in White made with Linen Material. These pants are very light and comfortable, and can be worn anywhere, especially during vacation.
